"Sekondi MP Papa Owusu Ankomah has urged the President to crack the whip against "
Sekondi MP Papa Owusu Ankomah has urged the President to crack the whip against his appointees when they go wrong or prove to be ineffective.
Contributing to deliberations on the floor of parliament about the bill on conduct of public officers, the former Attorney General reminded the President that executive power rests with him thus the need for him to assert his authority when need be.
The bill, when passed into law, is expected to regulate the work and behaviour of public officers and government appointees. It will serve as a guide for the performance of their duties.
Owusu Ankomah said he did not see why the President should entertain ineffective public officers in his government.
Also contributing to the bill on the floor was Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu, who said the bill, when passed into law, will help expose corruption in officialdom.
Also MP for Bekwai, Joe Osei Owusu said the absence of transparency is what fuels suspicions that politicians and public office holders steal from State coffers.
He said the public must be educated to know that public officers who steal from the state will be punished.
Contributing to the discussion, Minority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu said Parliament has failed in its oversight responsibility to watch over public officers to prevent them from stealing from the state. He reiterated the need for a financial intelligence office to investigate people’s wealth if there are suspicions that such wealth may have been acquired through questionable means.Share your views
