Former Skipper of Ghana's senior national football team - the Black Stars - Stephen Appiah has told StarrFMonline.com in an exclusive interview that he is not contesting for the Ablekuma South seat on the ticket of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) as being rumoured on social media.

"It’s not true," the retired footballer told StarrFMonline.com, and wondered: "Who is going round peddling this falsehood about me?"

He dared the rumour peddlers to "prove it."

"Anyone who has a proof should come out with my posters," he challenged.

"I’m not a politician and I don’t intend doing politics.

"I keep getting calls about this. Please let the world know I’m not interested in NPP and NDC politics. This is becoming annoying now," an incensed Appiah told StarrFMonline.com Monday.

The rumours about Appiah's purported parliamentary ambitions follow a recent announcement on social media, by former Joy FM morning show host Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah and OccupyGhana member George Andah, of their MP ambitions.

The two have publicly expressed interest in contesting in the party's forthcoming parliamentary primaries.

Mr Oppong-Nkrumah is aiming for the Ofoase-Ayeribi seat while Mr Andah has his eyes set on the Ewutu Senya seat.
