A memorial service has been held at the Presidency for victims of last week’s flood and fire disasters.
The service sets the tone for a 3-day national mourning exercise for the over 200 lives that were lost in the tragedy.
The Vice President Amissah Arthur today, Monday June 8, led a team of government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and religious leaders to pay tribute to the deceased.
The national flag is also flying at half-mast.
The vice president has assured government will support the victims and ensure that measures are put in place to prevent such an occurrence.
According to him, the exercise is necessary to revive the common humanity of Ghanaians.
Meanwhile, a sociologist Professor Kodzo Sena has condemned the lukewarm attitude of Ghanaians towards the observance of the three days mourning period declared by the government.
