Charlotte Osei has been sworn in as the new Electoral Commissioner, promising to push through electoral reforms needed to deepen the credibility of Ghana’s electoral process.

At a brief swearing-in ceremony at the Flagstaff House Tuesday morning, Charlotte Osei took the oath of office as the new Electoral Commissioner who replaces Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan - a constant fixture in Ghana's elections for decades until his retirement this June.

She told President John Mahama and representatives of political parties present at the ceremony she was conscious of the weight of expectations placed on her shoulders and will fall on the experience and cooperation of her other commissioners to succeed.

Her swearing-in was witnessed by the leaders of the - governing National Democratic Congress, the opposition New Patriotic Party, the Convention People's Party and the People's National Convention - who will be pleased that the contentious issue of electoral reforms will be key to the new commissioner's agenda.

Charlotte Osei promised to be impartial and work with conscience and conviction.
