Former Ghana striker Augustine Arhinful has defended the appointment of the new coach of Hearts of Oak Kenichi Yatsuhashi, saying one doesn’t need a certificate to be a successful coach.

The Japanese trainer has been appointed the substantive trainer of the Phobians for the next two-years, where he has been charged to revive the fortunes of the side with the main target been, the Ghana Premier League title.

Yatsuhashi however comes in with an underwhelming qualification – one which is akin to a CAF License B certification which will no longer be admissible once the Club Licensing System kicks into full gear.

The head coach is less certified than his assistant Yaw Preko but Augustine Arhinful insists this should ideally not be a problem.

“You don’t need certificate to be a good or successful coach,” Arhinful said in an interview.

“The coaches that won most of the titles with the Black Stars, what were their certification?

“It is up to him to come and prove that he is good.

“There are instances where coaches have all the certification needed but yet still they don’t perform.

“So this shouldn’t be a problem at all.”

Kenichi Yatsuhashi will be introduced to his players on Thursday after which he will begin working with the team.
