Richard Jakpa led raid on Ken Ofori-Atta’s residence – Majority Leader confirms

The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has condemned the raid at the residence of former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, by security operatives. Speaking on the Floor of Parliament on Thursday, February 13, 2025, he confirmed the involvement of Richard Jakpa in the operation. "So, Speaker, it is true that the private residence of the former Minister of Finance was entered into by operatives of the military and the police, led by somebody who we believe works at the National Security Coordinator's office. Mr. Speaker, his name is Richard Jakpa," he stated. He expressed regret over the incident and apologised to Ken Ofori-Atta, describing the situation as unfortunate. "We have investigated the matter, and we want to assure our fellow countrymen and our colleagues in this House that we have received assurances from the Office of the National Security Coordinator that it was not intended for such an incident to occur. That occurrence is most regrettable and unfortunate. "I personally extend my apologies to the former Minister of Finance, and I believe that this should suffice," he indicated. CCTV images of some individuals allegedly raiding the private residence of former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta emerged on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. The incident reportedly took place at his home in Cantonments in Accra while he was out of the country receiving medical care. Eyewitnesses claim the group consisted of about 12 individuals — five in military uniforms, one in a police uniform, and the rest in plain clothes. Meanwhile, Ken Ofori-Atta has been declared wanted by the Office of the Special Prosecutor. During a press briefing on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng declared him a fugitive on the grounds of causing financial loss to the state in several dealings, including the construction of the famous National Cathedral and Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA's) - Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML).
