The OSP says it also acknowledges a joint petition submitted by two persons, as well as two separate petitions submitted by other persons, in relation to the allegations.
"Given the nature of the allegations, the OSP will assess the case and determine whether it falls within its statutory mandate and whether further investigative action is warranted," a short statement issued by the OSP on Monday, August 24 said.
The development follows claims by Mr Gyamfi, who accused Mr Afenyo-Markin of extortion.
The Minority Leader has since denied the allegation and indicated that he intends to take legal action against the GoldBod CEO.
The controversy comes amid a public dispute between the two over claims of GH¢22 billion in losses, equivalent to about US$1.7 billion, allegedly associated with the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme in 2025.
The United Party has petitioned the Attorney-General and other anti-corruption and security agencies to investigate allegations of extortion against Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
The petition was filed by the party’s Communications Director, Solomon Owusu and Legal Director, Andrew Appiah-Danquah.
