The exercise, led by Accra Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, forms part of efforts to reclaim public spaces occupied by traders and improve access to public transport facilities.

The clearance is intended to enable commercial buses, especially Ayalolo buses, to pick up and drop off passengers without obstruction, while helping to ease congestion around the bus stop.
The Mayor, in collaboration with the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly, is also seeking to remove structures and trading activities from unauthorised spaces within the city.

The operation is aimed at ensuring that bus stops remain free of trading activities to allow commercial buses to operate without interference.
The exercise forms part of the assemblies’ broader efforts to regulate the use of public spaces and improve traffic management in the capital.
