Ashanti: Police arrest six suspected members of armed robbery syndicate

The suspects are Philip Nyarko, alias “Kawawa”; Hadi Samed, alias “Toronto”; Issahaku Musah, alias “Isak”; Suraj Mohammed, alias “Baba Nde” and “Trouble”; Hadi Abdul Majeed, alias “Panie”; and Foster Owusu Afriyie, alias “Joe Fraizer.”

Preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to reported street robbery incidents at Kaase, Ahinsan Estate, Santasi New Site, Bronikrom and Kwadaso Estate, among other locations in the Ashanti Region.

Police said investigations led to the recovery of two motorcycles, two machetes, knives, an iPhone 13, five keypad mobile phones, a laptop and 33 assorted mobile phones, among other items suspected to be connected to the alleged criminal activities.

Further investigations also resulted in the arrest of Augustine Agyemang Duah, who is suspected of assisting members of the syndicate to unlock mobile phones believed to have been stolen.

The Police disclosed that three persons, including Philip Nyarko and Hadi Samed, had previously been arrested on December 6, 2025, in connection with conspiracy to commit robbery and attempted robbery.

They were arraigned before the Asokwa Circuit Court 1 and subsequently granted bail. The case remains pending before the court.

According to the Police, investigations indicate that some of the suspects allegedly resumed criminal activities after their release.

One suspect, Abdul Shattar, is currently at large, while Police are also pursuing other persons identified as Andy, Umaru, Dauda, Malik and Abdul Farouk, who are suspected to be connected to the alleged syndicate.

The Police have urged members of the public with information about their whereabouts to contact the authorities and cautioned against attempting to apprehend any of the suspects themselves.

The arrested suspects are expected to be processed for arraignment before the appropriate court as investigations continue.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has also encouraged persons who may have lost mobile phones or other property during robbery incidents to contact the Police to assist in identifying the recovered items.

The Command expressed appreciation to the IGP's Special Operations Team for its operational and investigative support in efforts to combat organised criminal activities in the region.
