Former Ghanaian boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, has been remanded into police custody for one week over an alleged death threat against the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.

The Dansoman Circuit Court ordered his remand when he appeared before the court on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Ayitey Powers was arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command on Monday, August 24, following the circulation of a video on social media in which he is alleged to have threatened the life of Mr Ampofo Ankrah.

He is expected to reappear before the court on September 2, 2026, as police investigations into the matter continue.

His arrest followed a call by the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) for his arrest and prosecution over the alleged comments.
