The event was officially launched on September 24, 2026, at the Black Star Experience Forecourt at Jubilee House, where organizers gave guests a first look at the highly anticipated comedy showcase, which forms part of activities marking Ghana’s 70th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
According to the organizers, the Black Star Comedy Experience is more than just a stand-up comedy show.
It is designed as a celebration of wit, storytelling and cultural commentary that will spotlight both established comedy heavyweights and emerging talents while positioning Ghana as a hub for world-class live comedy.
They explained that the event seeks to bridge a gap in the market by creating a high-quality platform for culturally relevant Ghanaian and African diasporan comedy with global appeal, while opening new opportunities for local comedians to reach international audiences.
The organizers further noted that the experience will go beyond the traditional stand-up format by incorporating improvisation and musical comedy, creating an immersive entertainment experience for patrons.
They added that the name Black Star Comedy Experience pays homage to excellence, brilliance and the guiding light of humour during difficult times.
The show has been structured into three segments, featuring The Rising Stars, which will spotlight two promising local comedians, The Feature Acts, made up of seven established comedians with diverse comedic styles, and The Host, who will keep audiences engaged with jokes and seamless transitions throughout the event.
Speaking on the relevance of live comedy in today’s digital world, the organizers stressed that while online content continues to thrive, live comedy creates genuine human connection and social bonding.
The maiden edition of the event will be hosted by Foster Romanus, with Ghanaian comedians OB Amponsah and Lekzy DeComic, Nigeria’s Parrot Mouth and Klint Da Drunk, as well as UK-based comedians Eddie Kadi, Slim and Kojo Anim set to entertain audiences at the highly anticipated January 2, 2027 show.
