The Ministry of Finance has granted approval for the payment of outstanding salary arrears owed to members of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG).

The development comes on the back of an ongoing strike by JUSAG, initiated to demand the disbursement of revised salary arrears dating back to January 2026.

The industrial action has severely disrupted court operations across the country. Major judicial installations, including the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Accra Circuit Court, and various District Courts, have been locked, with security personnel restricting public access to the premises.

In a visible display of grievance, red cloth has been tied to entrances at several court complexes to signal the association's concerns and draw attention to the strike.

In an official statement addressing the resolution, the Ministry of Finance stated:

"Reference is made to this Ministry's letters number PFM-CD/CPMU/JUSAG/COS/26/10 and PFM-CD/CPMU/LCB/COS/26/10 dated 28th October, 2026, on the review of salaries and allowances for the Judicial Service staff and Members of the Lower Court Bench.

As you may recall, pursuant to Article 149 of the 1992 Constitution, H.E. the President granted approval for the implementation of new conditions of service for staff of the Judicial Service and Members of the Lower Court Bench, with effect from January 1, 2026.

In line with Government's resolve not to accrue arrears, approval is hereby granted for the payment of the associated arrears per the schedule below:"
