The new condoms are expected to offer improved comfort, elasticity and durability, with sizes tailored to meet the needs of Ghanaian men.
Director-General of the Ghana AIDS Commission, Dr Kharmacelle Prosper Akanbong, said the new range was developed after the Commission considered complaints raised by users during previous assessments.
Speaking on Joy News on Thursday, November 5, he said the condoms had been designed to improve user acceptability while maintaining the required quality and effectiveness.
βThese condoms will be ultra-thin, with good user acceptability, comparable to other commercial ultra-thin condoms in the market. We took into consideration user complaints in our previous assessment, and the new ones that are coming would satisfy most of the user complaints,β he said.
Dr Akanbong added that the condoms would improve elasticity, durability and lubrication, which he said would enhance usersβ experience.
He disclosed that the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) was expected to approve the first batch for release, after which the Commission would distribute them to its stakeholders and other condom distribution centres.
He said the products could be available for public use from Friday, November 6, or Monday, November 9.
