The labour movement in Ghana has been thrown into mourning following the death of Isaac Bampoe Addo, the Executive Secretary of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG).

Sources say Mr Bampoe Addo passed away at the Lighthouse Hospital in Accra on August 21, after a short illness. He was rushed to the hospital for medical attention, but sadly, he could not survive. He was 59.

His death marks a painful loss to Ghana’s labour movement, where he had become a respected and influential voice on issues affecting public sector workers.

Until his passing, Bampoe Addo also served as Chairman of the Forum of Public Sector Unions, providing leadership and coordination on matters of national importance to organised labour.

He was particularly prominent during the prolonged struggle by labour unions over the transfer of workers’ second-tier pension funds to their registered pension schemes. During that period, he was among the key voices advocating for the interests and welfare of workers.

His passing is expected to leave a deep void within CLOGSAG, organised labour and the wider public sector community. Colleagues and workers who knew him are now left to mourn a leader remembered for his commitment to workers’ rights and his strong advocacy for better conditions for public sector employees.
