He also called on the UK to support African countries in advancing the reparations agenda, commending its recent position on the issue.
President Mahama made the remarks during a bilateral meeting with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham on the sidelines of the ongoing Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda.

He said the current global situation presented an opportunity for countries with shared values to build stronger partnerships and deepen cooperation.
βThe partnership for growth gives us an opportunity to develop our relations to a higher level. The whole global architecture is unravelling, and I think this is the time for us to forge stronger partnerships between countries that believe in a multilateral system and a global system.

βI believe the UK and Ghana have many shared values: the value of democracy, respect for human rights and respect for constitutional governance. So, there is a lot that we have in common and can continue to build on to achieve successful outcomes in our relationship,β he said.
On reparations, President Mahama welcomed the British Prime Minister's remarks on the issue and urged the UK to work with African countries to advance the agenda.
βWe appreciate your statement you made in relation to reparations. We believe that it creates a first step for us to continue to see how we can put this whole issue of the transatlantic slave trade and colonialism behind us,β he added.
