The Northern Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the deaths of three children whose bodies were found in the boot of a vehicle at Koblimahagu Zoo in the Tamale Metropolis.

The deceased have been identified as three-year-old Dauda Abdul Aziz, five-year-old Saani Alsharaf, and seven-year-old Dauda Fadilan.

According to the Police, the children left their homes at about 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2026, to attend Islamic classes but failed to return.

Efforts by community members to locate them were unsuccessful until about 5:00 a.m. on Monday, October 5, when their bodies were discovered in the boot of a black Hyundai Tucson with registration number AS 1770-14.

The Police said the vehicle was found stuck in mud on a road leading to the area.

A preliminary inspection of the vehicle showed that the driver’s door and the rear passenger door behind the driver’s seat were open, while the other doors, including the boot, were locked.

Police investigations have established that the vehicle belongs to a member of the Ghana Immigration Service, who told investigators that it had been stuck in the mud for about five days.

In a statement issued on October 5, the Northern Regional Police Command said it had commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The Inspector-General of Police has deployed a special team comprising homicide investigators, crime scene experts and intelligence officers to Tamale to support the regional command.

The vehicle has been secured for forensic examination, while an autopsy is expected to provide further information on the circumstances surrounding the children’s deaths.

The Police have assured the public that all necessary investigative steps are being taken to establish what led to the deaths.

The Command has urged the public to remain calm and said further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
