Sissala East Assembly presents 1,000 desks to 43 schools

The desks, procured through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), are expected to help address furniture shortages and improve classroom conditions for pupils.

Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sissala East, Bening Adamu Yakubu, said the intervention was in response to the persistent furniture deficit affecting schools in the municipality.

He said the Assembly procured the desks under its previous budget and plans to provide an additional 1,000 desks this year to further address the shortage.

Receiving the furniture on behalf of the Municipal Director of Education, Deputy Director of Education in charge of Administration and Finance, Godfred Beveru Kanton, said the donation would provide much-needed relief to schools facing critical furniture shortages.

He said the municipality has a pupil population of more than 12,000, but the current consignment would directly benefit about 2,100 pupils.

The allocation comprises 600 dual desks for 1,200 pupils, 300 mono desks and 100 hexagonal desks for 600 pupils.

Mr Kanton said Standards-Based and School Improvement Officers (SISOs) would lead the identification of schools with the most pressing furniture needs to ensure the desks were distributed appropriately.

He commended the Assembly for the intervention and appealed to school authorities to adopt proper maintenance practices to prolong the lifespan of the furniture.

The MCE also disclosed that the Assembly was constructing school blocks in Sumborun, Bakwala and Kulfuo Friwa, among other communities, as part of efforts to improve access to education.

He assured residents that the Assembly would continue to invest in education and provide the infrastructure and resources needed to improve learning conditions in the municipality.
