The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) and the Senior Staff Association of the Judicial Service of Ghana (SSAJUG) have extended their indefinite strike, directing all members, including staff of the Supreme Court, to stay away from work from Monday, November 9.

The two unions said they had received no official response from the government or management of the Judicial Service after submitting their final demands on Thursday, November 5.

In a joint statement dated Sunday, November 8, and signed by JUSAG General Secretary, Abdulai Yakubu and SSAJUG General Secretary George Taylor, the unions said their revised demands represented the best position they could offer to improve the living conditions of judicial staff and restore justice delivery.

They said the strike would remain in force until their demands were met.

β€œNotice is further served that all staff including members serving at the Supreme Court shall stay away from work during the pendency of the strike,” the statement said.

The unions said their leadership had engaged the government and Judicial Service management over the past few days in an effort to reach an agreement that would address staff concerns while taking into account the government’s constraints.

However, they said no official feedback had been received as of 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.

They apologised to members of the public and institutions affected by the industrial action, but said the conditions of their members made it impossible to continue providing services.

The unions said their members would return to work only when their demands had been met and staff were sufficiently satisfied and motivated.
