According to preliminary information, the two individuals reportedly descended into the mining pit around 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26 to engage in mining activities but subsequently became weak, allegedly due to overheating and a lack of adequate air underground.
The two reportedly failed to return by the morning of Sunday, September 27, 2026, prompting a friend to enter the pit to check on them.
The friend reportedly found them weak and in distress underground.
Residents and other community members subsequently mounted a rescue operation and transported the two to the Juaboso Government Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
One of the deceased has been identified as Richard Oduro, popularly known as Churches, a resident of Juaboso Township.
The identity of the second deceased, described as a stranger to the community, is yet to be established.
The exact circumstances surrounding the deaths, including the reported cause, are yet to be officially established.
