32 Nigerians involved in romance scam arrested

The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has disclosed that 32 Nigerians involved in a romance scam have been arrested. He stated that the operation was carried out by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) in collaboration with National Security, whose diligent investigations led to the arrests.

The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram constituency noted that the suspects were based in Tuba, Kasoa, where they were apprehended while actively working. In a post shared on X on December 13, 2025, images showed the individuals seated on plastic chairs with their laptops placed on tables, working, with Bibles also present at the scene.

Why extraditing Ghanaian fugitives from the US may take time - US Embassy explains Sam George encouraged the public to support security agencies in combating romance scams to prevent the country’s image from being tarnished. “This dawn, another massive blow has been struck against cybercrime in Ghana.

A joint operation between the Authority and National Security resulted in the arrest of 32 Nigerians operating a romance scam syndicate in Kasoa Tuba. We will continue to support the Authority in its efforts to do more as we make Ghana an unattractive destination for cybercrimes,” the MP wrote on X.

This comes after Sam George hinted that three additional fraud gang members would be arrested following the capture of Frederick Kumi, also known as Abu Trica, by United States authorities over a romance scam. Ghanaian agencies that assisted in the case include the Attorney General’s Office, Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Ghana Police Service, Ghana Cyber Security Authority, Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), and the National Intelligence Bureau, among others.
