With just over a week to go, political parties are ramping up their campaigns in the Akwatia constituency ahead of the highly anticipated by-election scheduled for Wednesday, September 2, 2025.
The by-election was triggered by the demise of the sitting Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi leaving the seat vacant in one of the Eastern Region’s most politically active constituencies. As election day draws near, major parties—including the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and other smaller contenders—are leaving nothing to chance.
Campaign activities in Akwatia have surged in recent days, with party leaders, parliamentary candidates, and national executives holding rallies, door-to-door engagements, health walks, and town hall meetings to woo undecided voters.
The NPP, which is seeking to retain the seat, has been highlighting its past record in government, promising continued development projects, improved healthcare, and job creation for the youth in the area.
Meanwhile, the NDC is mounting a strong challenge.
The party’s candidate has been promising a new direction and better representation for Akwatia, which they say has been left behind in national development plans.
The Electoral Commission has assured the public of a free, fair, and peaceful election, stating that preparations are far advanced. Security arrangements are being tightened to prevent disruptions and ensure voter safety on election day.
