Alex Opoku-Mensah, the National Service Scheme (NSS Ashanti )’s Region Director, has been placed on administrative leave.
The suspension comes as a result of an urgent meeting that the Scheme’s management held on November 30.
The management has made the decision to “enable further inquiry into the alleged verbal attack on a nurse on duty at the Manhyia Government Hospital in Kumasi,” according to a statement released by the acting director of corporate affairs, Ambrose Entsiwah Jr.
The management of the Scheme promised to look into the alleged verbal attack on the nurse that was recorded on a recording that was leaked.
After the Manhyia District Hospital nurse requested a review of a prescription written by his daughter, a junior physician at the facility, Mr. Opoku-Mensah is heard hurling insults at her.
The NSS regional director, who is now suspended, expressed regret for his behavior.
“I understand the disappointment and appreciate the inconvenience my action has caused the general public as well as the Nursing FRATERNITY and Manhyia Hospital.
“This has never been my style but for a genuine reason to mediate a persistent issue between my daughter(Doctor) and a colleague nurse who I as well consider my daughter.
“I do apologize for any mishap and assure all, there shall not be a repetition of such. I look forward to maintaining a cordial relationship between any affected person,” he stated in a Facebook post on Tuesday, November 29.
