Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced that the government has successfully placed 7,000 nurses on the national payroll. He added that the process of migrating the remaining nurses is currently ongoing.
The minister made this disclosure on Thursday during an unannounced visit to the Bibiani Government Hospital in the Western North Region.
“The issue is that in 2024, when your clearance was issued, the process did not start early. Some of you were posted in 2025, and there was a directive that those recruited after December 7 should go home. Do you remember?” he asked, to which the nurses responded affirmatively.
“The President graciously agreed that, in the case of the health sector, that directive should not apply. So, we had to allow all of you to stay. Out of the 15,000 clearances issued, we recruited about 13,500. Out of that number, around 10,000 names have been captured on the payroll. Of these, 7,000 are already being paid monthly salaries, while the remaining 3,000 are gradually being migrated to ensure everyone is paid,” he explained.
The minister also addressed reports that some doctors had not received salaries for eight months.
“I would have to investigate before I can make a comment on that,” he told journalist Evans Nkum.
