Free SHS uniform suppliers to picket at Education Ministry over GH¢50m debt
The National Association of Institutional Suppliers (NAIS) has announced plans to stage a picket at the Ministry of Education on June 11, 2026, over the government's failure to settle outstanding payments owed to its members.

According to the association, its members are owed approximately GH¢50 million for the supply of uniforms, house dresses and school cloths to public Senior High Schools under the Free SHS program across the country.

In a notice issued ahead of the planned picketing, NAIS said the debt has remained unpaid since 2023 despite several engagements and appeals to the relevant authorities.

The Association indicated that the prolonged delay in payment has imposed significant financial strain on suppliers, many of whom are struggling to sustain their businesses and continue providing essential services to schools.

NAIS explained that the picketing exercise is intended to draw the government's attention to the plight of its members and to demand the immediate release of the funds owed to them.

"The picketing aims not only to draw the government's attention to our plight but also to urge the immediate release of funds owed to NAIS members," the statement said.

The association expressed hope that the peaceful protest would highlight the urgency of the matter and prompt swift action from the government to settle the outstanding debt.

NAIS has also appealed to the media to cover the demonstration, saying public attention and support would help ensure that the concerns of suppliers reach the appropriate authorities and stakeholders.

The picketing is expected to take place at the Ministry of Education on June 11, where suppliers will press for the payment of arrears they say have remained outstanding for more than three years.
