Regional Ministers urged to lead security efforts under new intelligence law
The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has urged Regional Ministers to take more action in safeguarding Ghana’s security, stressing that the country can no longer rely on outdated approaches in the face of evolving security threats.

Speaking at the National Security Reform Programme training in Accra for Regional Ministers under the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act, 2026 (Act 1168), the Minister said the new law provides a clear legal framework to strengthen coordination, accountability and intelligence-led decision-making across the country.

The Minister explained that Act 1168 clarifies the responsibilities of Regional Ministers by empowering them to chair Regional Security Council (REGSEC) meetings, demand intelligence briefings and coordinate joint security operations in line with national policy.

He further called for stronger collaboration between Regional Ministers and security agencies to improve intelligence gathering, crime prevention, and public safety.

The National Security Coordinator, COP Osman Abdul-Razak in his remarks, called on Regional Ministers to understand and properly apply the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act, 2026 (Act 1168).

He said they play a key role in regional security management and must be well equipped to lead Regional Security Councils effectively.
