Central Region: Two remanded over machete attack on Pragya rider in Diaso

The Diaso District Court has remanded two persons into lawful custody over the alleged assault of a Pragya rider at Diaso in the Central Region.

The accused, Emmanuel Frimpong, 19, and Perpetual Amoako, 21, both unemployed, pleaded not guilty to charges of abetment of crime, to wit causing harm.

Frimpong is also facing an additional charge of possessing a firearm without lawful authority.

According to the prosecution, a third suspect, identified as Enoch, also known as Awuoye, remains at large after allegedly attacking the complainant, Bright Agyei, with a machete and directing that the assault be recorded on video.

The prosecution said the footage was later circulated on social media.

The court, presided over by Lord Delvin Essandoh, remanded the two accused after the prosecution opposed bail, arguing that the third suspect was still on the run and that granting bail could interfere with ongoing investigations.

The court adjourned the case and indicated that the bail application would be considered at the next sitting. It also directed the prosecution to file its disclosures and issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the fugitive suspect.

Presenting the facts, the prosecution said the complainant and the accused are all residents of Diaso.

It alleged that on July 11, 2026, Amoako informed Frimpong that Agyei had threatened to kill him with a knife.

Two days later, at about 4:30 p.m., Agyei was riding his Pragya on the Diaso-Amobaka road when Frimpong and Enoch, travelling in an unregistered Honda Civic saloon car, allegedly blocked his path.

The prosecution said Enoch assaulted the complainant before, with Frimpong's assistance, forcing him into the vehicle and driving towards Amobaka.

The vehicle later stopped near a bush, where Enoch allegedly used Amoako's mobile phone to confirm the complainant's identity before handing his own phone to Frimpong to record the assault.

Enoch then allegedly attacked Agyei with a machete, inflicting multiple injuries.

The prosecution said a police officer who happened to be passing by intervened and rescued the complainant, while Enoch fled the scene.

Following a report to the Diaso Police Station, investigations led to the arrest of Frimpong at his hideout.

A search of his room allegedly uncovered a pump-action gun loaded with six live AAA cartridges.

Police also retrieved and impounded the unregistered Honda Civic allegedly used in the incident to assist with investigations.

Investigations are ongoing as police intensify efforts to arrest the third suspect and bring him before the court.
