New Defence Minister Gilbert Adjei promises stronger commitment to national security

Newly reassigned Minister for Defence, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has pledged to bring renewed energy and commitment to his new role, following his reassignment from the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.

Mr Adjei expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence placed in him, saying he was honoured by the opportunity to continue serving the people of Ghana in a different capacity.

In a Facebook post on Friday, August 7, 2026, Mr Adjei said his tenure at the Works, Housing and Water Resources Ministry was marked by service, collaboration and commitment to delivering on his mandate.

“I am profoundly grateful to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence reposed in me and the opportunity to serve the people of Ghana as Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources,” he wrote.

He also commended staff of the Ministry of Works and Housing for their support and dedication during his time at the ministry.

“I extend my deepest appreciation to the dedicated staff of the Ministry of Works and Housing, Ghana, for their hard work, professionalism and unwavering support. The progress and successes we achieved together would not have been possible without your commitment and sacrifice,” he said.

Mr Adjei said he was taking up the Defence portfolio with humility and a strong sense of responsibility, adding that he looked forward to contributing to efforts aimed at strengthening Ghana’s security.

“As I take on my new responsibility at the Ministry of Defense, I do so with humility, renewed energy and a deep sense of duty,” he said.

“I am optimistic about the road ahead and look forward to contributing meaningfully to our collective efforts to build a stronger and more secure Ghana,” he added.

The newly appointed Defence Minister thanked Ghanaians for their continued support and urged citizens to remain committed to the country’s development efforts.

“The work continues. Let us keep our sleeves rolled up, remain focused and work even harder to deliver for Ghana,” Mr Adjei said.

He called for collective effort as he begins his new assignment, saying: “I call on all hands to be on deck as we embrace this new chapter of service together.”
