In recent times, the media space has been inundated with reckless commentary, unverified claims, and sensational rhetoric that undermine the very fabric of our society. While the media is an indispensable pillar of democracy, serving as a watchdog and a voice for the people, some practitioners have resorted to careless rants that inflame passions, deepen divisions, and threaten the peace and stability of our nation.
The power of the media lies in its ability to shape public opinion and influence national discourse. This power, when used responsibly, promotes development, accountability, and unity. However, when wielded carelessly, it can trigger conflict, distort facts, and erode public trust in our democratic institutions. Irresponsible media conduct, whether through talk shows, online platforms, or traditional outlets, often thrives on sensationalism at the expense of truth and national cohesion.
History has shown that unchecked media recklessness can contribute to social unrest and even violent conflict. In fragile societies like ours, peace must never be taken for granted. The use of inflammatory language, unsubstantiated allegations, and partisan propaganda only serves to deepen political polarisation and create an atmosphere of suspicion and hostility.
But the media is not alone in this. Our politicians must also share the blame. Too often, they are quick to take political advantage of such unethical acts when the narrative favours them, but waste no time in condemning them when it goes against them. This double standard is nothing short of hypocrisy.
It is therefore imperative for journalists, media owners, and commentators to recommit themselves to the ethics of their profession. Accuracy, fairness, and responsibility should guide every report and analysis. The regulatory bodies must also strengthen oversight to ensure that the media remains a tool for nation-building rather than a weapon of division.
Citizens, too, have a role to play. By consuming news with discernment and demanding accountability from media houses, we can collectively push back against the tide of irresponsible commentary. Our peace and stability are far too valuable to be sacrificed on the altar of sensationalism and reckless speech.
The media should be a beacon of truth, not a megaphone for rants that endanger the nation. If we are to safeguard our democratic gains and preserve the harmony of our society, media responsibility must remain non-negotiable.

Morning show hosters are not sincere to issues on board, they mostly condemn opposition party no matter it can have improvement. And their doings give citizens heart to cause riot.
