Lordina Mahama warns of rising dangers facing children in conflict zones
Ghana’s First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, has expressed grave concern about the increasing number of children trapped in wars and humanitarian crises, warning that their futures are being destroyed by circumstances beyond their control.

Speaking at the 7th Annual Prayer Service for Children at the United Nations Church Centre in New York on Monday, September 22, Madam Lordina Mahama said the world is failing to protect its most vulnerable.

“A significant number of these children are in Africa, where they are robbed of their childhood, forced to fight, and go through terrible experiences,” she said.

Citing UN estimates, she noted that hundreds of thousands of children are caught in armed conflicts, many of them suffering losses that leave “emotional scars that can last a lifetime.”

She cautioned that without stronger government policies to support families and communities, children will continue to bear the heaviest burden.

“When nations fail to focus on policies that safeguard the home, strengthen communities, and nurture the youth, it is our children who suffer the most,” she said.

While she later led a prayer for children, Mrs. Mahama stressed that her message was not only spiritual but also a call to urgent action for world leaders.
