The winds of global diplomacy are shifting, and Israel must take heed. Nearly 160 nations across the world have now recognised the State of Palestine, and an overwhelming 142 countries recently voted at the United Nations to reaffirm the two-state solution as the only viable path to lasting peace. The tide is clear as the world has spoken. Yet Israel, emboldened by the unconditional backing of its so-called “darling boy” patron, the United States, continues to chart a wayward course that risks not only its own survival but also the fragile peace and geopolitical stability the world currently enjoys.
Despite pockets of conflicts in regions like Ukraine, Sudan, and the Sahel, humanity has thus far avoided the catastrophe of a world war. That delicate balance must not be shattered by reckless arrogance. If Israel, propped up by America’s outdated and self-serving foreign policy, continues to defy international consensus, it should be prepared to face the wrath of the global majority that stands firmly behind Palestine.
What, one may ask, is truly America’s interest in this long-standing conflict? Why can't Washington reason with the rest of the world and call Israel to order? Under the Trump presidency, America has abandoned the virtues of diplomacy for the theatrics of intimidation. Trump’s brand of foreign policy is short on wisdom and long on bravado, an approach that may please his domestic base but alienates America from the global community.
If a large-scale war erupts today, America must not delude itself into thinking the odds will favour it. Many nations are weary, even resentful, of America’s bullying posture on matters of peace and sovereignty. The world has not forgotten how Washington has unilaterally waged wars in Libya, in Iraq, and in the Middle East at large, often with devastating consequences for ordinary people. America’s history of interventionism leaves it with little credibility to lecture others on peace while shielding Israel from accountability.
The African voice in this matter is growing stronger. It was refreshing to hear Ghana’s president, John Dramani Mahama, take the global stage at the UN General Assembly to remind the world of the injustice that continues to fester in Palestine. Africa knows the cost of exploitation, the pain of domination, and the value of solidarity. That is why so many African leaders are adding their voices to the growing chorus demanding justice for Palestine and balance in international diplomacy.
The message to Israel and America is simple: eat the humble pie. The era of unilateralism is over. Global power no longer rests in the hands of a few nations that dictate terms to the rest of humanity. The people of the world, through their leaders, through international institutions, and through collective will, are charting a path toward justice and peace. Israel must embrace the two-state solution, and America must stop shielding it from reality.
Failure to do so risks igniting the very flames of a global war that could consume us all. The choice is stark: humility and peace, or arrogance and destruction. For Israel and its patron, America, the time to choose is now.
The whole world is watching!
