The government has committed to completing the long-awaited
Bono Regional Library in Sunyani and constructing six additional
libraries across the Bono Region, following a direct appeal from the
Omanhene of the Sunyani Traditional Area, Odeefour
Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II.
This major infrastructure announcement was made by the Minister
of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, during the 63rd Annual
Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), held
in Sunyani under the theme "Ensuring Comprehensive, Equitable,
and Sustainable Secondary Education in Ghana."
The event brought together education stakeholders, traditional leaders, and policymakers, with
the Sunyanimanhene serving as the special guest of honour. His presence was supported by
members of the Sunyani Traditional Council, including sub-chiefs and queen mothers.
In his address, Mr. Iddrisu, who represented His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama,
acknowledged the pivotal role played by Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II in advocating
for educational development in the region.
"The decision to complete the Bono Regional Library and initiate the construction of six more libraries in the Bono Region is a direct result of the request made by the Sunyanimanhene during my recent visit to his palace," the Minister said. He further noted that the issue was discussed with the Minister for Chieftaincy and Local Government, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, and subsequently with President Mahama.
Mr. Iddrisu publicly credited the traditional leader for championing the cause, saying, "He is the reason for these projects." He extended a personal invitation to the Omanhene to participate in the future sod-cutting ceremonies for the library projects, recognizing his continued influence in shaping development initiatives in the region.
The announcement has been met with enthusiasm from education stakeholders and community leaders, as the lack of adequate library infrastructure has long been a barrier to quality secondary education in the Bono Region.
The 63rd CHASS Conference served as a powerful platform for reinforcing the collaboration between traditional authorities and government in promoting sustainable educational development.
