Minister for the Upper West Region, Mr. Charles Lwanga Pnozuing, has engaged with the Regional House of Chiefs and the Association of Pentecostal Churches to raise awareness about the upcoming Gun Amnesty Programme.
During the discussion, the Regional Minister emphasized the necessity of this initiative to eliminate illicit firearms in circulation and ensure that both the region and the nation remain peaceful and secure for all.
He pointed out that the Gun Amnesty Programme provides a unique opportunity for individuals in possession of illicit arms to voluntarily surrender them without facing prosecution.
Mr. Pnozuing also informed members of the House of Chiefs about a temporary ban on the use of firearms for traditional celebrations during the Gun Amnesty period which aims to streamline regulations governing firearm use during traditional festivities.
He noted that this initiative will significantly contribute to reducing gun-related violence, enhancing community safety, and supporting the government’s broader efforts to promote peace, security, and national development.
The Regional Minister urged the public to stay informed with updates from the Ministry of the Interior, Ghana, and the Small Arms Commission as the country prepares to roll out this important national initiative.
