President Mahama marks one year in office with thanksgiving service today
President John Dramani Mahama will today, Wednesday, January 7, 2026, mark his first anniversary in office with a Non-Denominational Thanksgiving Service at the Forecourt of the Presidency (Jubilee House) in Accra.
The event, which is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m., follows exactly one year after the President took the “sacred oath” before God and country to lead the nation.
The thanksgiving service is being held under the theme “Resetting. Rebuilding. Renewing.” This theme directly mirrors the “Reset Agenda” the President outlined in his New Year message, which he described as a “covenant” to build the nation Ghanaians deserve.
The ceremony serves several key purposes:
National Gratitude: To offer thanks for the national stability maintained over the past year.
Reflection: To bring together religious leaders, government officials, and the diplomatic corps to reflect on the administration’s progress.
Reaffirmation: To renew the government’s commitment to inclusive governance and the “Reset” framework intended to transform the global and domestic governance systems.
The anniversary is a significant milestone for President Mahama’s administration, which inherited what the President described as a “nation in distress” a year ago.
In his recent address to the nation, President Mahama noted that his first twelve months focused on laying a foundation through “prudent management and difficult but necessary reforms”.
As the President enters his second year, he has pledged that 2026 will be a period to “accelerate and expand” on this foundation. Today’s service is expected to be a moment of spiritual and national unity.
