Suspected armed robber shot dead during police operation

A police operation at Danso near Bawjiase in the Awutu Senya District has ended the life of a suspected armed robber, identified as Clement Kofi Aidoo, also known as Yaw, Paddy and Joseph Abequaye.

Police said he was tracked down following investigations into a violent robbery at Labone. According to a source, the suspect resisted arrest in the early hours of February 6, 2026.

“Upon spotting the officers, the suspect jumped through a window, wielding a sharp cutlass, and attempted to attack them. Our officers opened fire, critically injuring him,” the source said. He was later pronounced dead at the Police Hospital.

The operation stemmed from a petition filed on January 30, 2026, by the Inspector-General of Police to the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the CID.

The petition followed a complaint by 77-year-old Christiana Frimpong, who reported that armed men attacked her at her Labone residence on December 4, 2025.

The attackers allegedly restrained her and made away with her Toyota Hilux pickup, an iPhone 16 Pro Max and other items.

Police said they recovered the stolen Hilux, the complainant’s phone and several documents during the operation.


Investigators also linked the suspect to another case involving a police officer, G/Sgt Daniel Kusi Appiah of the Kaneshie Divisional Headquarters.

The officer reported that while the suspect was employed as a domestic worker at his residence, he allegedly stole a Toyota Camry, cash and identification cards in November 2025.
