Four power generation units restored at Akosombo - Energy Minister
The government has announced the successful restoration of a fourth power generation unit at the Akosombo Dam following recent disruptions due to fire outbreak at the Dam.

The development forms part of efforts efforts to stabilise Ghana’s electricity supply.

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor disclosed this in a Facebook post on April 28.

According to the Minister, the fourth unit was brought back into operation at 9:09pm, just hours after engineers successfully restored the third unit.

He described the progress as a significant boost to national power generation, highlighting the dedication and technical expertise of the teams working to recover lost capacity.

"At 9:09pm, the fourth unit at Akosombo Dam was successfully brought into operation, an encouraging step that strengthens power generation and reflects the dedication and expertise of the team behind the effort," he wrote.

The restoration follows a recent fire incident at the Akosombo substation, which damaged the control room and resulted in the loss of over 1,000 megawatts of power to the national grid.

The outage contributed to supply instability and intermittent power disruptions in parts of the country.

Authorities say the phased recovery of the affected units is expected to steadily improve generation output and enhance reliability across the power system. Engineers have been working consistently to repair damaged infrastructure and bring additional units back online.

The government has reaffirmed its commitment to restoring a stable and resilient power supply, noting that all necessary measures are being pursued to fully recover operations at the facility.
