Afia Pokua, aka Vim Lady, a popular on-air personality and journalist, has said that she will not cover the 2024 elections as a precaution.
She told Samsom Anyenini on JoyNews’ analysis program, Newsfile, on Saturday that her decision was solely based on security concerns following two separate attacks in the past. She is now with Despite Media Group after switching camps from rivals Multimedia Group.
“Under the New Patriotic Party (NPP), I was a victim of similar attacks twice,” she claimed.
In the event of an attack during this high period, she warned, “there is no one to help you, not even the Ghana Journalist Association.” I had to leave the county for a month during the 2020 election and return when the coast was clear. “Unfortunately, this was not documented in the report; other journalists were assaulted,” she revealed.
Unfortunately, Vim woman announced her intention to leave the media industry owing to the attacks on journalists in the line of duty.
“We can’t go on like this, and I’m not alone.” We’ve seen a number of media individuals leave the industry and move into public relations or corporate communications because it’s safer, with less emotional and physical attacks,” he said.
