The deceased was found dead in his room on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, with a suspected gunshot wound to his stomach and a single-barrelled gun lying on his body.
According to a police report, the incident was reported to the Assin Praso District Police Command at about 12 noon by the deceased’s younger brother, Kofi Ansah, who said he returned from the farm at approximately 11:15 a.m. and discovered his elder brother lying in a pool of blood.
A police team led by the District Commander, Superintendent Eric Yao Avudzivi, proceeded to the scene and found the deceased lying on his back in the middle of his room, with the firearm resting on his stomach.
Police observed a deep wound suspected to be a gunshot injury on his stomach, slightly above the navel.
A nephew of the deceased, Acquah Emmanuel, told investigators that he was watching television with other family members when Kofi Sackey suddenly walked out of the room at about 11:00 a.m.
A few minutes later, they heard what sounded like a gunshot. They went outside to find out what had happened but did not see anyone around.
It was shortly afterwards that the deceased’s brother returned from the farm and discovered him dead in his room.
The police subsequently photographed the scene and conveyed the body to the New Edubiase Government Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Meanwhile, the Assembly Member for the area, Kingsford Deku, has told Citi News that the incident could be linked to a family dispute between the deceased and his brother over ownership of a parcel of cocoa farm.
He clarified that the deceased “locked himself inside his rival brother’s room before shooting himself dead.”
Police have since commenced investigations into the matter to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death.
