The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the development in a public notice dated September 8, 2026.
According to the Ministry, “eligible Ghanaian passport holders may travel to these countries without obtaining an entry visa, subject to the terms and conditions of the respective agreements.”
The new visa waiver arrangements cover holders of ordinary, service and diplomatic passports.
Ghanaians travelling to the Maldives and Zambia will be permitted to stay for a maximum of 30 days, while those travelling to Antigua and Barbuda can stay for up to 90 days.
The Ministry, however, cautioned that visa-free access does not exempt travellers from complying with the immigration and entry requirements of the destination countries.
It said travellers must carry a valid passport and any other documents required by the relevant authorities and must not exceed the approved period of stay.
The Ministry further clarified that Ghanaians travelling for employment, study, residence, or other activities requiring specific authorisation must obtain the appropriate approval before travelling.
Travellers have also been advised to confirm current entry, health and other applicable requirements with the relevant authorities or Ghana’s nearest embassy or high commission in the destination country, as such requirements may change.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the arrangements are part of efforts to facilitate the movement of Ghanaian citizens and strengthen the country’s bilateral relations with its international partners.
It said it “remains committed to facilitating the movement of Ghanaian citizens and strengthening Ghana’s bilateral relations with partner countries.”
The key news point: this is not just a general visa announcement—the important detail is that all three passport categories are covered, with different maximum stays: 30 days for Maldives and Zambia, and 90 days for Antigua and Barbuda.
