Ablakwa also disclosed that the Ghanaian government would cover the full cost of the mother’s travel to the United States to enable her to pay her last respects to her son.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, October 31, 2026, the minister welcomed the intervention by Mamdani and President Trump, describing it as a timely response to the family’s situation.
“This is most appreciated, @NYCMayor. The Government of Ghana welcomes your intervention and President Trump’s timely decision,” he said.
Mamdani had earlier announced on X that Trump had agreed to grant an immediate visa to the boy’s mother after a telephone conversation with the US president.
“The murder of a child is a pain no parent should have to endure, let alone from thousands of miles away,” the New York mayor wrote.
“Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person. I just got off the phone with President Trump, and he has agreed to grant her visa immediately,” he added.
Ablakwa said he had spoken with the mother, Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi, on Friday and assigned officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assist her with the visa application process.
He said the Mahama administration would also be prepared to contribute towards a dignified funeral for Javits.
“The Mahama Administration will take care of the full cost of Madam Adu Gyamfi’s travels and also stands ready to contribute towards a dignified funeral,” he said.
The minister added that the government remained committed to working with relevant parties to secure justice for the murdered boy.
