Makafui Kofi Woanyah has retained the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Volta Regional Chairmanship after defeating his contender, Joseph Wallace Homenya, in the regional executive elections.

Provisional results from the election shows Woanyah polling 169 votes, while Mr Homenya secured 148 votes, giving the incumbent a 21-vote margin.

Ahead of the contest, some members had called for the retention of Woanyah, citing his contribution to the party’s development and electoral fortunes in the region.

Others, however, had advocated for a change in leadership, arguing that the party needed a new approach to make it more attractive, unite its members and bring more people into the NPP.

The victory therefore allows Woanyah to continue leading the party in the Volta Region as the NPP seeks to strengthen its structures and expand its support base ahead of future elections.
