The Aowin Divisional Police Command has sounded the alarm over the growing menace of drug abuse, road accidents, and illegal mining in the municipality.
This was at a town hall meeting organized by the Aowin Municipal Assembly, which brought together stakeholders to discuss the pressing issues affecting the community.
The Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Abdullah Iddrisu, described drug abuse as a major canker threatening the future of the youth in the municipality.
He explained that the increasing rate of addiction is destroying the potential of many young people and remains one of the greatest challenges confronting society. The police are stepping up their efforts to combat the situation, but Chief Superintendent Iddrisu emphasized that they cannot win the fight alone.
Road Accidents: A Growing Concern
The commander also expressed worry over the increasing number of road accidents in the municipality, which are claiming the lives of many energetic young people. Reckless driving, disregard for traffic regulations, and indiscipline on the road are the leading causes of these accidents. The police are working tirelessly to enforce traffic laws and reduce these preventable deaths.
Illegal Mining
Chief Superintendent Iddrisu revealed that the police have made several arrests of perpetrators, including foreign nationals, who have been handed over to the Immigration Service for further action. He maintained that the police remain committed to clamping down on all forms of unlawful mining activities.
Call for Cooperation
The Divisional Commander urged all stakeholders, including traditional leaders, religious organizations, civil society groups, and opinion leaders, to join forces with the police to tackle these issues. He emphasized that the future of the municipality depends on safeguarding the youth and restoring order in the community.
