Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has publicly apologised to President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress, and the public for comments made by one of its presenters linking the President to the recent fatal military helicopter crash.
The station's management condemned the allegation, made by presenter Akyemkwaa Nana Kofi Asare on Saturday, August 9, 2025, describing it as "inappropriate, unfounded, and contrary to our values of professionalism, accuracy, and fairness in broadcasting."
They stressed that the remarks did not reflect Wontumi TV's editorial stance, policies, or values, and emphasised that no evidence supported the claim.
"As a responsible media house, we deeply regret the distress and reputational harm this may have caused to the President, the NDC, and the affected families," the statement said.
Management pledged to take disciplinary action against the presenter and noted that editorial protocols had been tightened to ensure all broadcasts are grounded in verified and credible information.
The apology comes at a time when the National Communications Authority has suspended three radio stations under Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited — 95.9 FM in Accra, 101.3 FM in Kumasi, and 101.3 FM in Takoradi — for unresolved regulatory breaches. The violations include unauthorised use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link frequencies and operating from unapproved transmitter sites.
The suspension follows the expiration of a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama for defaulting stations to address such infractions.
