The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Nadowli-Kaleo has presented sports kits to Kaleo St. Basilide Vocational and Technical School in recognition of the school’s exceptional performance at the just-ended Inter-Zonal TVET Sports Competition held in Issa, the capital of the Daffiama-Busia-Issa District.
The presentation was made when the school’s principal, accompanied by the Sports Department, paid a courtesy call on the DCE in Nadowli to present the trophies and medals they won during the competition.
The DCE congratulated the school for their sterling performance and also commended them for projecting the image of the district positively. She urged the students to remain disciplined and continue striving for excellence not only in sports but also in academics. She noted that beyond health benefits, sports have become lucrative avenues through which young people can build professional careers.
St. Basilide Vocational and Technical School was adjudged the overall best performing school in the competition, amassing 20 gold medals, two silver, and one bronze. They participated in football, volleyball, handball, netball, and athletics—where they dominated most events. The award for the overall best performing student went to Madam Song-bong Angelica, a student of St. Basilide.
The competition brought together schools from the following zones: Nadowli Zone, Wa Central, Wa West, Tumu, Nandom, and DBI.
The principal, however, lamented the lack of sporting facilities and equipment, noting that the school was unable to participate in basketball and badminton due to the absence of training pitches. He appealed to government, civil society, and philanthropists to support the school with the needed resources to enable it to reach its full potential.
As part of her support, the DCE, together with the District Coordinator and other officials, presented two footballs and two sets of jerseys to the principal on behalf of the school.
