Bono: ‘Pragyia’ rider shot dead at Berekum-Sofokyere
A 24-year-old 'Pragyia' (tricycle) rider has been shot dead at Sofokyere, a suburb of Berekum in the Bono Region.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) gathered that the incident happened around 12:30 hours on Friday September 12, 2025, and the body of Bernard, popularly known as 'critical' has since been deposited at the Berekum Holy Family Catholic Hospital for preservation and autopsy.

Mr Isaac Afful, the Assembly Member of the Sofokyere Electoral Area in the Berekum Municipality who confirmed the incident, told the GNA that the deceased, a native of Biadan, was shot dead by some attackers.

He said the deceased picked his attackers with his tricycle with registration number M-25-BR (314) and upon reaching their destination, they shot him and fled.

Some residents heard the gunshot and rushed to the scene to find the lifeless body of the deceased with a severe head injury, Mr Afful explained.

He said the police were informed, worrying that attacks on Pragyia riders in the municipality were becoming alarming.

“This is the third time we have recorded such an incident,” he stated and called on the police to beef up personnel visibility and intensify night patrols in neighbourhoods.

In another interview with Mr Ramson Appiah, the Chairman of the National Union of Tricycles of Ghana (NUTOG), he expressed concern about the recurring attacks on the riders and called for expeditious police investigations, to apprehend and prosecute the culprits.
