Prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Yusuf Umar Jallo has commended President John Dramani Mahama for his firm stand on the Palestinian cause and his call for an immediate end to the war in Gaza.
In a statement, Sheikh Jallo said the President had shown the world that “dignity cannot be bought or given as a gift; it is a quality that remains with its owner even in the most difficult moments.”
He lauded President Mahama for displaying true humanity by urging compassion for the people of Gaza, condemning Israel’s killings, forced displacements and expulsions of Palestinians, and demanding justice.
The Sheikh underscored Mahama’s reminder that justice means giving everyone their due rights, insisting that Palestinians deserve their full dignity as human beings. Quoting from the Holy Qur’an in Surah An-Nahl, he added: “Indeed, Allah commands you to give to relatives and forbids immorality, wrongdoing, and oppression. He instructs you that you may remember.”
Sheikh Jallo recalled Ghana’s recognition of the State of Palestine in 1988, describing it as a landmark reflection of the country’s commitment to justice and solidarity. He stressed that Islam calls for safeguarding human dignity and protecting the rights of all people, male and female alike.
He further called for promoting dialogue and mutual understanding among religions and cultures to foster global peace — a vision he said was echoed in President Mahama’s appeal.
According to him, the fight for Palestinian justice aligns with Islamic teachings, which emphasize peace, prosperity, and fairness as foundations of society. He noted that God sent messengers to uphold justice on earth, making it a divine obligation for humanity.
Sheikh Jallo also urged Islamic scholars and organizations in Ghana and beyond to rally behind President Mahama’s call, adding that the collective voice of religious leaders and humanitarian groups could strengthen Ghana’s moral leadership on the global stage.
Concluding his remarks, he declared: “We say to President Mahama, go forward, for the rich
Islamic community is with you heart and soul. May Allah protect you from evil. Ameen.”
