A 13-member delegation from the Defence Service Command and Staff College of Zambia, led by Colonel Tyndall Hamane, visited the Ghana Army Headquarters as part of a regional security study tour.
The delegation, comprising of officers from Malawi, Namibia, and Zambia, aimed to deepen their understanding of the Ghana Army’s security cooperation initiatives, which are designed to promote political stability and socio-economic development across the West African sub-region.
Speaking during the meeting in Accra on Monday, the Deputy Chief Staff Officer (Operations and Training), Brigadier General William Kwabiah, underscored the importance of security management as a cornerstone of socio-economic progress.
He highlighted the Ghana Army’s historic role in Economic Community of West African States Monitoring group (ECOMOG), including its leadership and participation in peace support operations in Liberia and Sierra Leone.
At the Hall of Generals, the delegation received a comprehensive presentation delivered by Colonel Richard Amedeka, Chief G3 (Operations), on “The Role of the Ghana Army in Regional Security Cooperation and its Contribution to Political and Socio-Economic Transformation.”
He outlined the Army’s peacebuilding efforts, contributions to democratic governance, socio-economic benefits of its engagements, challenges faced, and strategies for strengthening regional partnerships.
He emphasized that Ghana’s security initiatives have not only restored peace but also enhanced professional capacity, reinforced democratic institutions, and elevated the country’s global reputation.
In her response, Colonel Tyndall Hamane expressed profound gratitude to the Ghana Army High Command.
She commended the detailed insights shared during the visit and noted that the lessons learned would inform the delegation’s professional roles while strengthening future contributions to regional peace and security.
As part of the visit, the delegation also called on the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong, and discussions highlighted the enduring relationship between Zambia and Ghana.
The visitors were further briefed by the Deputy Director of Air Operations, Wing Commander Davis Aboagye, who presented on “The Role of the Ghana Air Force in National Defence and Regional Security Cooperation.”
