Three highway robbers jailed 20years each for Jacobu-Anwiankwanta attack

Three notorious armed robbers who terrorized travellers on the Jacobu-Anwiankwanta highway have been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment each by the Bekwai Circuit Court.

Presiding Judge His Honour Mr. Appiatu found Peter Boadi, alias Kwao Ziggy, Daniel Kwaku Owusu, and Eric Kwaku Danso guilty on two counts — conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery — after months of trial. The verdict was delivered on October 27, 2025.

According to the prosecution, the convicts launched a violent attack on travellers at Fiankoma
near Jacobu on April 29, 2024, where they robbed their victims of two iPhones and GH¢7,000 in
cash. In addition, they forced a Chinese national among the victims to transfer GH¢30,000 via
mobile money to an accomplice under threat of death.

An extensive intelligence-led operation by the police led to the arrest of the suspects between
June and September 2024. Investigators later conducted a search at Boadi’s residence in Obuasi
Bogobiri, where they discovered a foreign-made Bruni pistol, a locally manufactured firearm, and
several rounds of ammunition. The seized weapons were presented as crucial evidence in court.

Delivering judgment, the court held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt, stressing that the convicts’ actions endangered lives and undermined public safety.

The Ghana Police Service, in a statement after the sentencing, commended its detectives and intelligence teams for their diligence and professionalism throughout the investigation. The Service reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that criminal elements face the full force of the law.

It further assured the public that targeted anti-robbery operations will continue across the Ashanti Region and other parts of the country to dismantle similar criminal networks and safeguard the nation’s highways.
