Three more individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with a fake online food delivery scam, bringing the total number of accused persons before the Accra Circuit Court to seven.
The suspects — identified as Godsway Dunyo, Wonder Sakpiti, and Mathew Aheto — allegedly defrauded customers who placed food orders online and made advance mobile money payments but never received their meals.
They join four others — Elliot Sotama Atsu, 20; Elijah Sotama, 20; Jethro Atsu, 20; and Obed Selasi
Agboli — who were earlier arraigned on October 15, 2025.
The seven accused have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime, five counts of defrauding
by false pretences, and five counts of stealing. Agboli faces an additional charge of money
laundering for allegedly using proceeds from the fraudulent operations to purchase an E450
Mercedes Benz worth GH¢800,000.
All the accused persons pleaded not guilty and were remanded into lawful custody.
According to the prosecution, police intelligence led to the arrest of Dunyo, Sakpiti, and Aheto in
Sogakope on October 1, 2025. The remaining suspects, identified as the alleged ringleaders, were
picked up on October 10, 2025, at an apartment in Haatso, Accra.
The suspects are alleged to have created fake online platforms and social media pages
impersonating popular food delivery brands such as Papaye, Pizzaman, Chickenman, KFC, and
Mawarko. Victims who encountered these pages placed orders and were instructed to make
mobile money payments in advance, but no food was delivered.
In some cases, victims received fake verification links that gave the suspects access to their bank
accounts linked to their mobile money numbers, resulting in unauthorised withdrawals.
Investigations revealed that a total of GH¢91,100 was stolen from the bank and mobile wallets of
five identified victims. Police also seized 28 assorted mobile phones believed to have been used in
the fraudulent operations.
Digital forensic analysis is ongoing to identify additional victims.
