Gov’t raises minimum wage to GHC 21.77, effective January 1, 2026
The National Tripartite Committee (NTC) has announced a 9 percent increase in Ghana’s National Daily Minimum Wage (NDMW) for 2026, raising it from the 2025 figure to GH₵21.77.

The decision was reached after extensive negotiations held on Sunday, November 9, 2025, in Accra. According to the Committee, the adjustment reflects the need to balance economic realities with the welfare of workers and the sustainability of businesses.

In a joint communiqué, the NTC stated, “In determining the 2026 NDMW, the Committee took into account the current economic environment, cost of living, sustainability of businesses, and the desirability of attaining higher levels of employment.”

The Committee emphasized that the new rate will take effect on January 1, 2026. “All establishments, institutions, or organisations whose daily minimum wage is below the new rate should adjust accordingly, effective 1st January 2026,” the communiqué said.

It further cautioned that any organization that fails to comply with the new rate will face sanctions in accordance with the law.

Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Dr Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, said the increment reflects the government’s commitment to protecting workers’ welfare while promoting business stability. “This review was guided by our responsibility to ensure a fair wage that corresponds with the cost of living,” he noted.

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson added that the government remains committed to maintaining a balance between social welfare and fiscal sustainability. “We are ensuring that the wage adjustment supports workers without undermining macroeconomic stability,” he explained.
