Close down Training Colleges if you can’t absorb us after school- Unemployed teachers to Gov’t

Trained unemployed teachers from the 2023 batch have urged government to close down training colleges if they can’t absorb them after school.

This call was made on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 when they hit the streets of Accra in protest over government’s failure to recruit them.

According them, if the country doesn’t have a plan to recruit them, it will be best closing down the training schools.

They believe churning out teachers who cannot be absorbed by the Ghana Education Service “is a waste of resources and time”.

Expressing frustration over what they describe as an uncertain future, they indicated that the schools must be opened only when there is a national demand for teachers.

The demonstration follows public statements made by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, during a recent policy discussion.

In his remarks widely reported across major media platforms, Dr. Forson warned that Ghana cannot continue mass recruitment into the public sector, stressing the urgent need for the private sector to lead job creation.

His comment has heightened anxieties among trained teachers who fear that posting opportunities will become even more limited in the coming year.

Although the Minister indicated that essential sectors would continue to receive attention “as needed,” the protesting teachers argue that these assurances may not translate into concrete action, which might leave them jobless for a very long time.

The group has vowed to continue their demonstrations until government provides a clear roadmap for their employment and addresses what they describe as the long-standing gap between teacher training outputs and actual recruitment.
